Week #2: Progressive basebuild at Sports Hub

The Kingfishers met up at the Sports Hub for Week 2's LSD in what turned out to be cool weather for a nice run along the Gardens By The Bay and Marina Bay Sands.  The turnout was smaller than the first session as most of the trainees had plans for the weekend's ASICS and 2XU Runs.

Under the guidance of the experienced FatBird Trainers and Pacers, the Half Marathon and Full Marathon participants were led in separate pace groupings of 2hr, 2:15h, 2:30h for the HM and 4:00h, 4:30h, 5:00h for the FM.

At basebuild pace, the trainees found it comfortable to keep up with their respective groups, with a few even going to the front to keep to their slightly faster paces.  The earlier drizzle cooled the route down, making the training run easier and more enjoyable.

After the HM trainees U-turn at the Helix Bridge for their 14km requirement, the FM went on to the Promontory before turning back towards Gardens By The Bay and then back to Tanjong Rhu bridge for a second smaller loop to complete 24km.

The skies were cloudy throughout the run, resulting in some fast times recorded, although we are still in the early stages of the program.  The trainers conducted a group stretching post-run which was enjoyed and appreciated by the training group.

The entire training ended on a high note ahead of schedule, leaving all to have a good wash up, chit-chat and sharing of tips, including information of the two runs this weekend.

Next week will see the Kingfishers going to the Western Slopes for some strength and speed endurance buildup, which will serve them well ahead of the pace training in the second half the program.
